Breast Reconstruction
Cosmetic breast surgery can improve the size and shape of a woman's breast in many ways. There are a number of reasons for a woman to consider cosmetic breast surgery:
- To enhance the body contour by enlarging (Breast Augmentation)
or reducing (Breast Reduction) the size of the breast - To correct sagging and loss of volume (Breast Lift - Mastopexy) of the breast
- To correct breast asymmetry
Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation is a cosmetic procedure designed to increase and
enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast. Breast implants are
usually placed behind the pectoral muscle in the chest wall, and incisions
are made inconspicuously under the breast in the fold. Endoscopic
techniques may be used which allow incisions to be made within the
armpit and fiber optic cameras are used to visualize the breast pocket.
The operation is typically performed under general anesthesia as an
outpatient. After surgery, scars will fade with time.

Breast Lift
Breast Lift, or Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to lift and
reshape sagging breasts often seen as a result of pregnancy, weight loss,
and natural aging. During the procedure, excess skin is removed from the
breast and the nipple areola is lifted into a more natural position. Sometimes
a breast implant is used in conjunction with this procedure to give the
breast more volume. The operation is performed either under sedation or
general anesthesia as an outpatient. After surgery, the breasts are higher
and firmer, with temporary stitches usually located around the areola,
below it and in the crease under the breast.

Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction is a surgical procedure performed to remove excess tissue,
fat and skin from heavy sagging breasts. Breast reduction is usually
indicated to alleviate a variety of conditions including; back, neck
or shoulder pain caused by the weight of the breasts, skin irritation
beneath the breasts, indentations in your shoulders caused by tight
bra straps, and restriction of physical activity due to the size and
weight of the breasts. The most common surgical method uses a three
part incision; incisions are made around the areola, vertically to
the crease underneath the breast, and horizontally beneath the breast
following the natural crease. The operation is usually performed as
an outpatient under general anesthesia. This procedure may be covered
by your health care insurance if you meet their criteria including
the above conditions and the amount of breast tissue being removed.

Gynecomastia
Many men feel self-conscious about extra fat and tissue located in their
chest area. Fortunately, this condition (known as gynecomastia) can be
treated with a procedure sometimes referred to as "male breast reduction."
Two variations of this procedure may be used, depending on your needs.
If fat, skin, and glandular tissue need to be removed, the procedure will
be done using a scalpel or scalpel-liposuction approach. For this procedure
the incision can usually be placed discreetly in the underarm area or
around the areola (the dark area surrounding the nipple). If only fatty
tissue needs to be removed, the procedure can be done with liposuction
alone, which entails a much smaller incision.
